Local Mode Processing
When your browser supports it (Chrome, Safari desktop), VidCompress compresses your video entirely on your device using the MediaRecorder API. In local mode, your video file never leaves your machine — no upload occurs, and VidCompress servers never see your footage.
Cloud Mode Processing
For files over 300 MB or when local mode is unavailable, your video is uploaded securely to our processing infrastructure. The file is retained only for the duration needed to complete compression and deliver a download link. We do not use your uploaded content for any other purpose.
Data Retention
Cloud-compressed results are available via time-limited signed URLs. After expiry, the compressed file is no longer accessible or retained. Job metadata (filename, size, reduction ratio) may be retained in your account history for your reference.
Cookies and Analytics
VidCompress uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4) for aggregate usage analytics. We use session cookies to maintain authentication and guest compression quota. No advertising or tracking pixels beyond GA4 are used.
Account Data
If you create an account, we store your email address and plan tier. We do not sell your data to third parties. You may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us.
